Hosted by China Medicinal Biotech Association and organized by BIT Life Sciences, Inc., the 1st Annual Protein and Peptide Conference (PepCon-2008), held in Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center from April 22 to 24, 2008, achieved a consummation. The theme of this conference is "From Concept to Market". Many honored guests presented at the ceremony and gave brilliant speeches on invitation, among them are Dr. Harold A. Scheraga, eminent leader in protein folding, Dr. Marc Wilkins, who has defined the concept of the proteome and coined the term, Dr. David K. Robinson, Vice President, Bioprocess R&D, Merck Research Laboratories, Merck & Co., Inc., USA and Dr. Thomas Li, Head of Asia Pacific Technology Management, Roche Diagnostics Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., USA. Nearly 500 world-renowned experts, professors, laboratory principals, project leaders and representatives of well-known enterprises from 31 countries attended the ceremony.
There were altogether 24 sessions following the ceremony, including Proteomics, Human Proteome Project, Bioinformatics, Protein Structure and Interaction, Biomarkers, Protein and Peptide Drug Discovery, Vaccine and Antibody, Investing and Financing, Outsourcing and Business Cooperation, etc.
Synchronously, New Product & Technology Exhibition attracted many instrument companies, peptide synthesis companies, outsourcing companies and database software companies internationally.
This annual conference, on one hand, provided a splendid platform for domestic researchers to communicate with international experts, offered excellent opportunities for domestic governors, enterprises, and institutes to seek cooperation, and on the other hand, promoted international exchanges and enhanced domestic scientific development in protein and peptide. Meanwhile, it pushed forward the development of relevant scientific fields worldwide and made an important contribution to human proteome project.
